South Lawn (White House)

The South Lawn, located south of the White House in Washington, D.C., plays a key role in the U.S. presidential residence complex. It is bordered by East Executive Drive and the Treasury Building to the east, West Executive Drive and the Old Executive Office to the west, and South Executive Drive and the Ellipse to the south.

Until World War II, the South Lawn was open to the public. Today, this space is part of the White House's closed grounds. It regularly hosts ceremonies, such as meetings with foreign delegations, and more informal events, such as the annual egg roll or staff barbecue.
